This is my first post of hopefully many to follow. Rather than talk about about a specific topic in this first post, I thought it would be better to talk about who I am, where I’ve been and where I’m going so you will have some perspective on my insights.
To start with, my name is Rik Guyler and I live in Ohio. Not the fun capital of the country but we love our football (Go Buckeyes!) among other things.
I have been working with computers and related technology since the early 1980’s and have been working in the IT industry for ~25 years at this point. Through my career I have worked as a Systems Engineer, Network Engineer and Solution Architect for both enterprise and VAR partners and have skills and experience in many IT disciplines, including networking, storage, virtualization, data protection and security.
I have been an Architect in the VAR world for the last 10+ years but I rose through the ranks of engineering so I stay connected to the technology through constant training, testing (I have a fairly large home lab) and research.
That said, my diverse background has given me a big picture perspective, especially where the business is concerned. Even though I am a techno geek at heart, my job is to focus on delivering business solutions through the use of technology. Fortunately for me, I’ve figured out how to do both. 🙂
